Dr. Shirley Campbell is the Instructional Designer in support of faculty excellence in teaching and learning at the Penn State New Kensington Campus. In addition to multiple types of learning opportunities offered in person or via Zoom, Dr. Campbell offers individualized assistance in areas of course design, assignment design, assessment design, and options for using technology in teaching and learning.
Regularly Scheduled Sessions
These include Sharing Sessions, Book Studies, Common Hour Sessions (CH), and Teaching Circles. Descriptions of these opportunities are provided on the Calendar Page!
Drop by In-Person/Zoom Just-In-Time Help
Stuck on something with Canvas, TopHat, or some other tool, or not sure if the assignment you are building could be stronger? Just drop by or send a request to Zoom, and I'll do my best to help you get beyond the current predicament.
Drop by In-Person/Zoom by Appointment
Thinking about making a change, trying something new, or just wanting to toss around some ideas for next term? I'm glad to make an appointment with you and spend some time helping in any way I can.
Professional Development Planning
Faculty at PSUNK are devoted to their students and their subject areas. Planning for their own professional development over time helps to ensure that they make the most of the time they spend in areas that are of interest to them individually.
Coaching
Sometimes you just want to make some changes, and you aren't sure what to change. Is there some area of your teaching or course that you would like to strengthen? We can discuss the situation, observe the process that takes place in teaching, and together come up with ideas to make changes that make sense with your goals.
Course Revision
Time to refresh the course you've been teaching for years? Or maybe a new course was just assigned to you, and you'd like another set of eyes to review the options and help with the development.
Syllabus or Assignment Review
Want someone to take a quick look at a syllabus or assignment that you feel is finished, but just want to see if you've missed anything? I'm happy to be a second set of eyes to provide a quick review.
Program Evaluation Planning
When accreditation comes around, finding the best ways to show the excellent work that you and your students have been doing is sometimes a bit tricky. I can help to find ways to align student work with assessments that produce results, making sure that there is evidence to share with the accreditation board.
Workshops
Sometimes quick sessions are not enough. Workshops are held when the need arises. If you have suggestions for a workshop topic, please share with me. Remember that workshops can be delivered in one afternoon, daily for a few days, or in a 1 to 2 hour session over several weeks.
